Stay Optimistic - Stay Healthy

Stay Optimistic - Stay HealthyMay is a month for OPTIMISM. Trees are budding, flowers are blooming and snow is hopefully a thing of the past. Most of us have finished our spring cleaning, packed away our winter attire and have restocked our closets with pastels and open-toed sandals. French manicures and trendy hair-cuts are on the horizon. The winter blues have been replaced with longer days; although mostly rainy with cameo appearances of sunshine. Nonetheless, we anxiously anticipate summer; fun in the sun, sandy beaches, margaritas and daiquiris, a stroll through the park, the aroma of BBQ and a plethora of other activities we enjoy during the warmer months.

Despite all of these reasons to have a smile on your face and a song in your heart, some people still find it difficult to be optimistic, especially those that are suffering from obstacles and struggles in their daily lives. Negative feelings like stress, sadness, and worry cause a spike in the hormone cortisol, which in turn suppresses the immune system. Many years ago, I realized the way to experience positive moments was to think of the moment as positive; or at the very least, find something positive to take out of the moment, even if it's just a lesson you can teach someone else. A few years ago, I was let go from my job, which created a domino effect in losing several other things in my life. Instead of being depressed and upset about it, I took an opportunity to find my passion, reinvent myself, evaluate my options and because I had worked since I was 14 years old, I relaxed.
